Cala Biriola is a small and charming cove located along the coast of Baunei, in the heart of the Gulf of Orosei. Protected by high limestone walls and surrounded by thick Mediterranean scrub of centuries-old holm oaks and junipers, it is one of the most hidden gems of eastern Sardinia.

The beach consists of smooth white pebbles, polished by the sea over millennia. The waters are an intense azure blue with such transparency that the seabed is visible even at several metres’ depth. The area is ideal for snorkelling and diving.

Cala Biriola: Cliffs and Emerald Waters

The holm oak forest reaches right to the water’s edge, creating natural shade on the beach — a rare luxury along this stretch of coast. The contrast between the white pebbles, green vegetation and azure sea is unforgettable.

How to get there

Cala Biriola is reachable by sea from Cala Gonone harbour in approximately 40 minutes of sailing. There is also a challenging trekking trail that descends from the provincial road, but the sea route is by far the most convenient and scenic option.
